Your Quick & Invisible Cavity Solution

We have chosen to not use silver amalgam (mercury) fillings because the technology involved with them is well over one hundred years old. There are also several disadvantages to amalgam, the most noticeable being how much they stick out due to their dark color.

At Grand Dental Studio, we provide patients with the newest and best option, which is bonded composite resin fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings in Oklahoma City.

Whether you have a cavity that needs attention, or you’re ready to upgrade your old fillings to ones that blend in seamlessly, click here to schedule an appointment today.

What are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

While amalgam fillings are made of a combination of metals (including mercury), tooth-colored fillings consist of composite resin, which is a mixture of dental plastic and microscopic glass particles. The material is malleable so it’s able to be shaped in whatever way a patient needs, plus it comes in a variety of shades that we can perfectly match to someone’s smile.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

  • Your dentist will perform an exam to see if the issue with your tooth can be corrected with a tooth-colored filling.
  • If yes, they will numb the area with a local anesthetic and remove any damaged or decayed enamel.
  • An etching substance will be applied to the enamel that will slightly roughen it up so that the composite resin has an easier time bonding with it.
  • The custom-shaded resin is applied to the tooth in thin layers and sculpted to look like real enamel.
  • A special light is used to cure the resin, and then it’s polished.

All in all, the entire procedure can be completed in a single appointment and doesn’t require any follow-ups!

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Composite fillings look natural, and they provide better protection for your teeth because they eliminate all the shortcomings of old-fashioned silver fillings. Composites seal the tooth structure better, insulate against hot and cold better, and if they wear down, they can be repaired more easily than amalgams.

Many people choose to remove dark silver fillings and have white composite fillings placed as part of a cosmetic dental enhancement. They also offer one of the quickest ways to address cavities and minor structural damage.
